Schweppes is the official sponsor of the Tennis Masters Tournament in Madrid , which has been held for the past five years. This year, the firm decided to launch a promotion based on a series of special activities held during the weekends before the tournament at different branches of department store El Corte Ingles in Madrid . The promo finalized at the brand's own booth during the tournament.
Advertising agency Street Life selected SIA Interactive in order to design and implement an interactive game for tennis fans. SIA responded with a Virtual Tennis Match, a game in which participants play against an onscreen rival by using a real tennis racket equipped with a movement sensor. The game graphics, including the stadium advertising and the player's gear, was totally customized for Schweppes.
SIA's solution was well-received by the public, and sales increased for the promo item, Schweppes tonic water, at all branches of El Corte Inglés where the game was played. At the booth set up at the tournament, a total of nearly 2,000 people played during the 9 days.
