August 2003 - Spain.
Telefónica Móviles Spain is hosting Movi-City and Movi-Beach
again this year. This event is "on tour": it travels to different
cities within Spain through the months of June and September,
and to different beaches between July and August to coincide
with summer vacation. During these events, the latest services
of the company are promoted, and different sports activities
can be played by participants. Movi-Beach has been going on
for the past eight years, while Movi-City began just a year
ago. During last year's tour, approximately 200,000 people
participated in the Movi-City events.
For this promotional event, the Delfín Group marketing agency
asked SIA Interactive to develop a rally simulator (Movistar is a
regular sponsor of rally events). The game was developed with
virtual reality technology, and participants got to drive
the Citröen Xsara used by Carlos Sainz in the Rally World
Championship.
A booth was constructed out of a tube-shaped pipe to recreate
the interior of a rally car. The booth is transportable, so
it can be taken to all of the cities included on the tour.
Participants sit on a real competition seat to drive; they
watch the track on a screen or use a virtual reality helmet.
The experience is both fun and realistic, thanks to powerful
speakers that recreate the sounds heard by racecar pilots.
The number of participants has been surprising: to date, some
600 people per day have participated in the game.
"We returned to SIA Interactive, and we are glad we did. Their response
to our request was outstanding, both for us and for our client,
Telefónica Movistar".
Alvaro Sánchez
General Strategic
Director of the Delfín Group
"We are thrilled with the results, and with the response of
participants".
